“Assuring quality and competence” is a guide for medical laboratories that are intending to acquire accreditation to the ISO 15189 International Standard.

Many accreditation boards (such as the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, NABL, in India) use the ISO 15189 document as the reference standard while granting accreditation to medical laboratories. This Standard is comprehensive, but laboratory heads are sometimes unable to interpret it to the satisfaction of the assessors.

Dr Swaroop K Sood and Dr Rajat Mukherjee are senior pathologists with extensive experience in assessing laboratories for accreditation. They have brought their knowledge and experience together to create this guide for medical laboratories.
